about

To FrMc:

"Most days, I didn't know where I stood in reference to you. I figured it was a statistical probability that there were some people in any given room that found me to be generally loathsome. But I wished so very much to be someone worth respecting. I don't need to be universally respected. But you? It mattered.

And then, when I attempted a light-hearted project, and I felt lost and scared and sheepish, you didn't mock me. You didn't abandon me. You didn't leave me to my own devices. You were charitable and generous and legitimately kind.

And generally ... you're just cool. You're the kind of good and decent person that this world needs more and more of. So I tried to write a song that I imagine is 'cool' and 'good' and 'decent' in its own way. I went with, if you translate the Italian from the PDF file, 'Smoky Barroom Jazz Music.' I also used the infamous leading chord from Etta James' 'At Last' because ... who could resist, right? It's so good.

Stay cool/kind/good/decent, and thank you for your help that day. On that specific day, it meant the world to me."
