Despite my attempts to be "social butterfly" in class, my social anxiety tends to peak in classroom settings. I have the thinnest of skin, and I'm scared to death of offending people ... even though I take risks with my words and can sometimes be blunt to try and elicit some authentic response from others.

When I took the risk at just 'giving' you a nickname, and then thinking 'oh, I bet I'm not the first to say that' -- you were nonchalant in your simple response. 'Yeah, it's a thing, it's cool, no worries.'

And that's all it took. I swear upon many holy books and angels and other divine creatures, you took my social anxiety down that day. Like, you pinned it to the ground, like "[expletive], stay down!" And I was able to breathe better that whole class.

How does that translate into the song I wrote? I utilized one of my favorite techniques, polyrhythm: three-note patterns backed by two-note patterns (you can change those numbers whenever, but 2 against 3 is simple and graceful). I find this to be one of the most effective musical patterns for disarming one's tension ... like, in a physiological way, allowing one to relax muscles. Sure, to perform the song, I had to tense up. But when I listen, I can let go.

You have a very lax personality, as I see it. I have NO idea what your inner thought life is like. I hope it is as serene as your outer expression."
