"I took this quote entirely out of context. Kudos to you if you can source its origin. You wrote it to me, at one point.

But I like to think that the quote applies not just to our graduate program, but to the wild dance that is life.

Musically, the song I wrote for you transfers back and forth between a standard pentatonic scale, and then with the chromatic descent, it morphs to some kind of modal scale: possibly Dorian? I'd have to look at my music theory again.

The idea is to keep the dance alive and interesting, but with enough repetition that one can keep track of what the next step is going to be. That's the trick, isn't it? I wasn't always able to predict where to step next. I am quite sure you saw me make some confident mis-steps. You never judged, even when you had the right to... I think you know to what I refer...

In any case, keep fighting, keep dancing, stay strong!"
