about

To JeFr:

"You were always one of the easiest people to talk to ... in that entire building. I don't know why. I try to be social, as I'm sure you noticed. But you were extra-cool about it.

And yet, when you portray yourself, you describe a person who is quirky and a little angry with the world, perhaps in a funny way.

Maybe that very trait is what made it so easy for me to talk to you, all throughout the graduate program.

I appreciate your openness, your willingness to sacrifice time in that way.

To that end, I wrote a song that is designed to express the tension of constancy and variation, and how valuable it is to be able to hold that tension ... like a gift.

May you be a gift to MU for many many years to come. We celebrated those added letters to your name for a reason."
