"Here's your practice run" - LaSc

To LaSc:

"Do you remember that time we were at [restaurant] and you wanted to talk to me about [someone important to you]?

I commented on how strange it was offering advice and insight ... having to straddle the fence of "I get lots of help for mental health" and "I'm getting ready to help lots of other people."

And you said, regarding the situation, "here's your practice run," and laughed.

Listening to some goofball kid like me try and parse whatever is going on in the life of someone you love, and give advice on what things you say or do are really helpful, and more importantly, what commonly-said things are SUPER UNHELPFUL ... you took a chance on me and allowed me to feel some sense of value and purpose on what was otherwise a pretty lackluster evening.

So you made my day, that day.

Musically ... okay, I love this song. I seriously just love it. It's not particularly complex, but it's fun to play and it's fun to listen to. I love the creepy sound of the dissonant minor-2nd clusters in the intro. And then when the bass line kicks in (which I intentionally borrowed from the signature battle theme intros in the Final Fantasy series ... your face and hair remind me of a protagonist in Final Fantasy XI), things just go nuts.

I wrote two melodies, both of which work with two different harmonic/chord structures. So from there, the compositional process is just a matter of switching in and out different patterns.

In the end, the piece comes together with both hands playing the frantic/frenetic melodies in unison ... I did my best to accelerate in the final run; when I think of you at your best, I imagine the kind of person who runs a race and saves their best energy for the home stretch. Not that you're a runner ... to my knowledge. It's a metaphor."
