about

To JoBe:

"Let's start with the song title. Do you remember that evening? We were having technical difficulties, and it was the week after the faculty union strike, and you felt an urge to sing the opening/ending piece of Les Mis with everyone participating. And as people turned to their smartphones, shirking and shying away from a wonderful and/or hilarious opportunity, you made sure it wasn't optional. I smiled on the inside and the outside. It was a great moment.

But I find, and/or suspect, that you take a lot of the dull moments of life and make them into something better.

Musically ... there's a cute reference to the aforementioned musical number, but otherwise, this song is built around the premise of a singular, evil-earworm-catchy melody. Beyond that, I'm tinkering around the edges. I don't know how to make it better. Were this song something other than a song ... say, a physical artifact one could describe by taking it in with all the senses rather than just hearing ... I suspect your description of it would be more interesting than the thing itself.

So please, never stop bringing goodness and wisdom into this world."
